Theo MacLeod wasn’t supposed to be the one. Tall, dark and handsome suits me just fine, but the cocky grin, know-it-all attitude, and mammoth ego? No thanks. I only hired him so I wouldn’t have to sit at the singles table again. It was just pretend. He wasn’t supposed to kiss me. My heart wasn’t supposed to pound. We weren’t supposed to spend the night together—the hottest night of my life. One night turns into a snowed-in weekend away, and even the blizzard of the century can’t cool the fire between us. I can’t get enough—of his smile, of his body, of the way he makes me feel. We’re nothing alike. He’s a daredevil, and I’m a nervous Nellie. He’s a drifter, and I want to put down roots. He’s an opportunist with a checkered past, and I’m a Girl Scout volunteer. But none of it matters when I’m in his arms. I know he’s made mistakes. I know his wounds are deep, and he doesn’t trust easily. I know he doesn’t believe he could ever be enough to make me happy, but he could. All he has to do is stay.

◄◄ My Thoughts ►►

Melanie Harlow BROUGHT IT with this book!  My love for her words cannot grow any stronger.  If You Were Mine is perfection!  It has heart, real emotional issues, personal struggles, and a brilliant cast of characters.  It’s a perfect concoction of all the fabulous ingredients I love in romance.  Plus, I laughed my ass, not literally….unfortunately.

“We’re all a little broken, aren’t we.”

Here’s what I absolutely loved:  Pretty much everything, but the writing was key.  The emotional bond I developed with these characters would have been impossible had this not been perfectly plotted and written.  The personal insights we get from them made me love them even more.  They’re real and raw.

“She was pure gold and no way in hell was I good enough for her.  But if she was willing to put up with me, I’d do everything I could to make her happy, things I’d never done for anyone before.”

Theo and Claire are both flawed, but utterly perfect for one another.  They completely balance each other and make each other better.  I love that they each made the other braver and stronger.  Every time they “jumped” my heart did too.

Theo’s struggles were so raw.  I hurt for him.  Although I hated the impact it had on Claire, it was necessary to make the story as poignant is it is.  Their love is palpable.  It’s real, strong, and was able to withstand all the trials and tribulations they faced.

“He was the first thing I thought of in the morning and the last thing I thought about before I fell asleep at night.  He was all I wanted.”

I’ve loved everything I’ve read by Melanie Harlow, but this book took things up a notch for me. Most of her characters are real, relatable and slightly flawed.  They are a true reflection of real life.  That’s definitely the case with If You Were Mine.  It’s my new favorite!

Overall, this is perfection.  Seriously, it’s fan-freaking-tastic and you need to click the buy link right now, if you haven’t done so already!   This is a TJ Top Fave.
