In Book 1 of the Beyond Human series Nina Croft gives her readers a little bit of everything. This book is a great mix of romance, mystery, sci-fi, paranormal, and military drama. Yep, all that goodness rolled into one.
Here’s what worked well – the plot and content of the story were really good. The story is original, with just enough background information given to reel the reader in. The main characters were both strong and likeable. I particularly enjoyed Christa’s funny internal monologues and fantasies. The plot twist at the end was an added surprise.
Here’s what didn’t work so well. It lagged just a little in the middle and I’m not a fan of cliffhangers. Yes, I know this is book 1, which obviously means there more to come. I guess it was wishful thinking that led me to believe more of the story would be wrapped up in this installment. I’m super impatient, so waiting for the next book will be torture for me.
Overall, this was a pleasant surprise. It’s my first experience with Nina Croft. Color me impressed!
